Content Marketing Strategy – Alice in Wonderland Style

It’s that time of year again. I’ve been working with Content Marketing World for the past 3 years to help promote the conference by creating something called “Conference eBooks”.

The way it works is, we research and connect with certain speakers that will be presenting at the conference and invite them to contribute a sample of what they will be talking about at the event. The contributions are compiled into an eBook with a clever theme aligned to the event.

The first year, the eBook title was Content Marketing Secrets, with a secret agent theme. The second year the title was 36 Content Marketers Who Rock with a rock and roll theme. This year we’ve created a series of 4 eBooks called Content Marketing Wonderland using an Alice in Wonderland theme starting with Building a Content Marketing Strategy.

Each eBook covers a different aspect about content marketing that is “beyond storytelling”, which is a sub-theme of this year’s #CMWorld conference.

What’s great about doing these conference eBooks each year is that we get better at producing them, but we also grow our network connections with content marketing subject matter experts. Those connections are invaluable for many reasons, one of which is just getting speakers to participate in these things. Being able to get some of the smartest, busiest and in-demand brand and consultant thought leaders to provide content in exchange for exposure isn’t anything like what it used to be.

Besides creating a great resource for any marketer that wants to know more about content marketing, these eBooks also promote the conference and the speakers. On top of that, this year we have Curata to thank for sponsoring the eBook series.

As for my agency, TopRank Online Marketing, on top of working with CMI, we get exposure every time someone shares a link to the digital assets or the eBooks themselves. We’re creating content to promote the world’s largest content marketing conference and have been for the past 3 years. That credibility (and opportunity to attract new business) has been priceless.
